"McKenzie is a child who has been difficult to categorize. She is developmentally delayed and severely speech delayed. She has difficulty with sensory integration and riding really helps with that. She is also aggressive and emotionally immature. Riding helps her shine. After her riding session, we see a child who is very relaxed - very unusual for McKenzie. McKenzie has a friend in her special education preschool classroom who also rides. They love to talk about their horses.
For the last several sessions, McKenzie has been blessed with two exceptional volunteers. Jackie leads Blackie and keeps her safe. Cassie, her sidewalker, talks and talks and talks to McKenzie. As a result, McKenzie's spontaneous speech is improving.
We see her grow and learn with each session. We thank God for all of the volunteers and donors who make it possible for the children to have this life-changing experience."
