Fund Raising and Donations
Reins of Life does not receive any governmental or United Way funding. We rely on contributions from individuals, corporations, social and service organizations, church groups and foundations. We conduct five special events annually:

Sponsor a horse
While the volunteers are the hands of the program, the horses are the hearts and legs. Currently we have seventeen horses and ponies ranging in age from 3 to 38. They all have had various careers before coming to us. It is costly to feed and care for them. You can sponsor a therapy horse for one year for $1000.
Endowment funds
Two designated endowment funds have been established at the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County: the Reins of Life Fund and the Kelsey Marie Meekhof Memorial Fund. These funds are permanently invested and restricted for the purpose of generating interest income for use by Reins of Life. You can donate to either of these funds by sending a check to Reins of Life and designating the Fund in which you want it deposited. Or send your donation to
Community Foundation of St. Joseph County

Other operating costs
Equipment, facility maintenance, and administration to keep the program functioning smoothly is expensive. All donations, either directly or indirectly, go to provide therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with disabilities. You can help by making a donation to Reins of Life. Donations may be tax deductible. Consult with your attorney or financial advisor about potential tax benefits you may receive.
If you have any questions about Reins of Life or therapeutic riding, please contact our office for more information.

Quote from Julie Ruff, Hannah's Mom:
"When I tell people Hannah takes horseback riding lessons, they say ,'Oh, that must be fun..' They don't understand the benefits. Hannah has started to talk in actual sentences. The greatest thing Reins has given her is the ability to express her wonderful personality, like when Hannah whispers to me, 'Mom, I love you!' Our family, and especially Hannah, is very grateful."
