Meet our 2008 Board Members

David Barry, President
"I am actually proud to say that I am a native of New Jersey, born in Hackensack and educated in Jersey City. One of seven children and a host of pets, I grew up with the belief that "busy is better'. A 1973 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in government, I immediately put that diploma to good use by running a college bar for eight years. In 1987, I became the general manager of Tippecanoe Place Restaurant.

I have been a board member of the Studebaker Museum for three years and presently the chair of the archives committee. The greatest epiphany and joy of my life has been my association with Reins of Life. I began volunteering in January 2006, and joined the board in June. God willing, my involvement has been as beneficial to others as it has been for me."

My husband, Barney, and I became the 'twofers', 2 for the price of 1, doing odd jobs around the farm as well as volunteering in classes. I joined the board in 2003.

Over the years, I volunteered with the German Township volunteer fire department women's auxiliary, was a Girl Scout leader while my two daughters were growing up, and also helped out at the Ronald McDonald House at Memorial Hospital.

"I know now I'll never see my daughter go to her high school prom. Or walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. But Reins of Life has given my daughter many gifts - the ability to go to a Halloween party, participate in the 4-H fair, and have rewarding therapy sessions with consistency.

"There is something else Reins of Life gives, not to the children but to the parents. It is a time for us to let our guard down, to be with other individuals who have had the same struggles and fears, and to appreciate the accomplishments of all the children. Reins gives us hope."
